SARAH APEW ROAD TO THE OLYMPICS GAMES

by Ebenezer NiiOtoe Bruce-Tagoe in Boxing, Industry News 0 comments
In the heart of Accra, Ghana, nestled within the vibrant neighborhood of James Town, the rhythmic sounds of the ocean were often accompanied by the staccato rhythm of gloves against punching bags. It was here, in the dusty old boxing gym, that a fiery spirit named Sarah Apew honed her skills, chasing a dream that had become a beacon of hope for herself and her community. Sarah Apew was a remarkable young woman. With determination etched into her every move, she had made her mark as a dedicated boxer with a heart of gold. Her journey from the narrow streets of James Town to the Olympic arena was about to take a monumental leap, and she had promised her gym the most precious gift – a gold medal. The James Town Boxing Gym was a place of dreams and sweat, where young talents were forged into champions. Sarah, with her father’s blessings and her mother’s prayers, had embarked on this path at a tender age. The gym had become her second home, and she had become the hope of her community. With the announcement of the upcoming Olympic qualifier in Senegal, Sarah’s eyes glittered with determination. She knew that this […]

Claressa Shields is the new undisputed women’s middleweight champion after beating Savannah Marshall on the scorecards.

by 29photostudio in Industry News 0 comments
Claressa Shields has been crowned the new undisputed women’s middleweight champion after beating Savannah Marshall via a unanimous decision. A rivalry that had been brewing for 10 years reached a boiling point at the opening bell with both women charging into the center of the ring and unloading. But it was Shields who looked the better with several eye-catching combinations. After a fast start from Shields, Marshall went on the front foot in the second and looked to push Shields back onto the ropes, the American unified champion however used her impressive technical skills to escape any situation that could have posed any significant danger. As the fight progressed, Marshall slowly increased her work rate while Shields remained calm and stood firm as she managed to navigate the single shots the Hartlepool fighter was throwing. If Marshall was going to get the backing of the judges, she needed to throw more combinations, but this was proving difficult with Shields’ slick movement. The tide seemed to have turned in the sixth with Shields showing possible signs of tiredness. She was frequently leaning on Marshall in an attempt to weather any attacks she may bring and even though Marshall was beginning to find […]

ALVAREZ CRUISES PAST GOLOVKIN TO WIN THE TRILOGY

by 29photostudio in Industry News 0 comments
There would be no controversy on this night as Canelo Alvarez was faster, stronger, and simply outworked his rival as he upended Gennadiy Golovkin with a definitive unanimous decision victory to retain his undisputed super middleweight crown at T-Mobile Arena. Unlike their previous two outings that were marred with controversy, the third fight saw Canelo (58-2-2) make a statement from the outset by taking the center of the ring and routinely beating Golovkin (42-2-1) to the punch. Maybe it was the weight or the age but the 40-year-old Golovkin just couldn’t get going in a new weight class after campaigning for his entire career at 160 pounds.  Their first two meetings saw Golovkin outwork Canelo with plenty of observers believing that GGG deserved at least one win. That wouldn’t be the case here as Canelo made a diligent effort to beat his rival to the punch. GGG did find success in the middle rounds and briefly stunned Canelo in the ninth round with a right hand. But it was too little, too late as Canelo banked enough rounds to ensure victory. It wasn’t quite the barnburner the first two fights were, but it was a great fight that saw one […]

JOSE PEDRAZA, AND RICHARD COMMEY BATTLE TO A TEN-ROUND SPLIT DRAW

by 29photostudio in Industry News 0 comments
Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey came into tonight’s ESPN main event from Tulsa, Okla., both needing a win, and when all was said and done, neither of them got it. Pedraza and Commey fought to a split draw in the 10-round bout at 140 lbs, with Pedraza winning one card 97-93, Commey taking another 96-94, and the third judge scoring it 95-95. Bad Left Hook’s unofficial card was 96-94 in Pedraza’s favor, but the draw outcome isn’t bad. It was a competitive fight where both veteran fighters had their moments and some rough rounds and even rough stretches. Pedraza (29-4-1, 14 KO) looked sharp in the opening round but may have been buzzed a bit in the second by Commey (30-4-1, 27 KO), as Pedraza started looking a little more comfortable staying stationary and trading than he probably should have. That gave Commey what looked like a good run through the fourth round, but then Pedraza came back into it. Pedraza had a dominant ninth round down the stretch of the fight, but the eighth and ninth were both pretty close, though the eighth was tough to score for because he almost took the round off. Pedraza did some good […]
