In a thrilling showdown at the Decathlon forecourt at Kawujudi junction on Saturday, April 13, 2024, Nigerian boxer Rasheed Idowu emerged victorious over Ghanaian champion Bastie Samir to claim the Africa UBO Light Heavyweight title, marking the highlight of Sanlafest.

The bout started with both fighters exchanging heavy blows in the first round. Samir, known for his powerful body shots, unleashed a barrage of punches, but Idowu responded with a relentless combination of body shots and uppercuts that rocked Samir and left him dazed. However, the bell saved Samir from further punishment, ending the round.

Idowu wasted no time in the second round, launching an aggressive assault on Samir. With lightning-fast combinations, Idowu overwhelmed his opponent, ultimately sending Samir flying out of the ring with a powerful blow. Though Samir managed to get back on his feet, Idowu seized the moment and delivered a devastating left hook that sent Samir crashing to the canvas.

Despite Samir’s valiant efforts to rise, he was unable to beat the count and had to be carried away from the ring. However, the referee declared a technical draw, citing a foul blow to Samir during the exchange.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Idowu, who showcased his skill and determination in the ring. Meanwhile, Samir will undoubtedly be eager for a rematch to reclaim his title and redeem himself after this stunning defeat.
