The Ghana Davis Cup team will hold its final training session on Friday morning at the Backyard Club in Osu before departing for Nairobi, Kenya, where they will compete in the 2026 Davis Cup Africa Group competition from June 15 to 21 on clay courts.
Over the past week, the team has undergone an intensive preparation camp at the Backyard Club, which has served as the squad’s training base throughout the build-up to the tournament. The camp forms part of a major effort to ensure Ghana is fully prepared to compete against some of Africa’s strongest tennis nations.
Preparations began with local-based players Raphael Dowuona and Lameck Bagerbaseh reporting to camp under the guidance of Coach Richard Ayi Dartey. The pair focused on fitness, movement, tactical play, and match simulations while awaiting their teammates’ arrival from the United States.
The squad was completed with the arrival of Samuel Antwi and Abraham Asaba, allowing the team to move into full-scale training sessions. Since then, daily workouts have focused on team cohesion, technical improvement, doubles combinations, and adapting to clay-court conditions similar to those expected in Nairobi.
Former Ghana Davis Cup player has led the technical team and the country’s highest-ever ranked player, Henry Adjei Darko, alongside Coach Richard Ayi Dartey. Their experience and leadership have helped shape a disciplined and competitive environment throughout the camp.
Players have taken part in demanding fitness drills, tactical exercises, practice matches, and team-building sessions, all designed to prepare them physically and mentally for the challenges ahead. Officials have expressed satisfaction with the team’s commitment and progress during the training period.
The Ghana Tennis Federation has also acknowledged the tremendous support received from the team’s stakeholders. The campaign has been made possible through the generous backing of principal sponsor Amoako Boafo through the Dot. Atelier Foundation, alongside Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC), CBG Bank, and voluntary contributions from members of the Ghana tennis fraternity, who have rallied behind the national team.
As the team prepares for its final session on Friday morning, confidence within the camp remains high. The players and coaches will use the opportunity to fine-tune their preparations before embarking on the journey to Kenya later in the day.
With a successful pre-tournament camp behind them and strong support from the tennis community, Team Ghana now turns its focus to Nairobi, carrying the hopes of a nation eager to see its flag represented with pride on the continental stage.
