For two unforgettable days in Accra, Africa’s strongest athletes gathered for the African Armwrestling Championship, where twenty-one nations arrived carrying ambition, national pride, and the dream of standing at the summit of African armwrestling.
When the final grip was broken and the last contest decided, it was host nation Ghana—the celebrated Golden Arms—that once again stood tallest on the continent.
Powered by the deafening support of a home crowd and driven by relentless determination, Team Ghana delivered a commanding championship performance to finish first on the continental medal standings, reaffirming their status as Africa’s armwrestling powerhouse.
Benin secured an impressive second-place finish after a disciplined and consistent campaign, while South Africa completed the podium in third with a series of commanding performances. Nigeria, one of the tournament’s traditional powerhouses, finished fourth in what many described as one of the most fiercely contested editions in championship history.
The defining image of the championship came during the grand closing ceremony when Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation of the Republic of Ghana, stepped onto the podium and personally presented the gold trophy and top honours to Ghana’s victorious Golden Arms. This emotional moment triggered thunderous applause from athletes, officials, and spectators across the packed arena. Standing beside him was Charles Osei Asibey, the visionary sports administrator whose relentless leadership continues to drive the growth of armwrestling across Africa and position Ghana at the centre of the sport’s continental rise.
Also joining the medal presentation were officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the Armwrestling Federation of Africa, celebrating athletes whose journeys of sacrifice, discipline, and belief had brought them to Africa’s biggest strength-sport stage.
As the Ghana flag rose above the arena and the champions lifted their trophy high into the Accra night, it became clear that this championship was about far more than medals.
It was about identity.
It was about excellence.
It was about Africa telling its own sporting story.
